The Wende Museum of the Cold War is an art museum, historical archive, and educational institution in Culver City, California. It was founded in 2002 by Justinian Jampol, a native of Los Angeles and scholar of modern European history.
At a time when mass surveillance, walls, and authoritarianism are on the rise globally, the Wende’s mission of surveying the past to better understand the present is more vital than ever.
We were tasked with creating a new website and digital identity for the museum that would not only reflect the physical space, but would also display their extraordinary collection in a way that inspires interactivity and experimentation.
Through their new site, we are challenging assumptions about the Cold War by channeling the variety of life within the Soviet Union and by highlighting the dynamic interplay between state ideology and subjective experience.
